JANET'S TIPS OF THE TRADE
There are many "rules" when composing a photograph. In landscapes be aware of the "Rule Of Thirds".
In portraiture, a trick is to divide the frame into four sections. Keep your subject horizontally centered with the head in the third quarter from the bottom and, for a full body shot, place the feet in the bottom quarter. Leave more space at the top than the bottom so that the subject appears grounded and is not "floating". Don't squeeze your subject into the frame without leaving room at the top and bottom. The subject looks trapped plus the portrait can not be printed as an 8x10 because either the head or the feet would have to be cropped out of the image.
For a 3/4 length shot, crop at a natural break in the body- right above the knees- not the ankle or right below the hands. A traditional bust shot is only the head and shoulders. A "head shot" is just the face and hair.
Go out and shoot a full body portrait this weekend-pay attention to how your subject is framed in the viewfinder or LCD screen. Would the image fit nicely on an 8x10 print or would you have to print 8 x12 to get the entire subject? Let us help. Send your best portrait as an 8x10 using the cbPhotoLab website and I willl print you a free 8x10 to reward your efforts; add an order comment "to Janet". See for yourself how to adjust your composition to accommodate for an 8x10 crop. Have fun! Janet

Our Canon price lists have been added to this, our primary website. Click the Canon logo on the home page and you can then display our various Canon price lists: slr bodies, lenses, flashes, etc. This is the same information that we see at the sales counter. The lists show if the item is (was) in stock when the html page was updated. As we add more manufacturers, we will update the pages more frequently. The goal right now is to update them with current information weekly by Thursday noon. Although not yet very comprehensive (see the slr body price list), individual listings on the price list will link to the product as contained on our cbPhotoStore web site. This site contains complete product specs and comparison capabilities for the listed products. If you find this resource of value (or not), your suggestions are always appreciated.

LAUGH with Ron Bowen
I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me.
A sign on the lawn at a drug rehab center said: 'Keep off the Grass.'
A small boy swallowed some coins and was taken to a hospital. When his grandmother telephoned to ask how he was, the nurse said, 'No change yet.'
