PHOTO EXHIBITIONS (including two openings this Friday that you should attend)
"Re:re:re:fwd:fwd:Forward" lenticular photography exhibit by Birmingham artist Karen Graffeo opening reception at Jennifer Hunt Gallery on Friday, January 8th, from 6 – 9.
The lenticular photographic process is a three dimensional layering that allows the photograph to be experienced as motion, or a brief animation. The photographs in this exhibit merge images of landscape, sky, water, and human forms, which Graffeo photographed during travels to Italian villages, Romania, New Mexico, and Turkey. The installation, which includes text, presents the impact of journey: the journey of light and dark across the land and the impact of the journey of human spirit and mortality. The images act as a visual inventory of awe, wonder, and mystery: the gifts of aging. The show will include several dozen small lenticular prints, two large three-layer landscapes, two lenticular light boxes, one reflective image and five small images on elite, a flat glowing light that is the thickness of a credit card. The exhibit will travel to Florence, Italy in May 2010. Graffeo is an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Montevallo. http://www.JenniferHuntGallery.com
